Personal Metrics: The key to Mobile Self-Improvement Success

I’m often asked how someone can develop themselves using their mobile devices.  The short answer?  Personal Metrics.  We can use our mobile devices to keep track of important data like our weight, BF% and caloric intake if we’re trying to lose weight.  We can also track our finances if we want to improve our financial situation.  We can take classes over our mobile devices and look at countless videos if we want to learn something new.  But the key to success is to make sure that we TRACK OUR PROGRESS.  It is a combination of goal setting and tracking.  Firstly, we need to make sure that we have a goal.  Then we need to take MASSIVE action towards our goal.  We have heard this many times before.  However, we also need to make sure that we track our activities and analyze everything that we are tracking to make sure that we are making progress towards our goals.  If we can’t track it, then we can’t manage it.  If we can’t manage it, then how are we supposed to make progress towards our goals.  Personal metrics, or our personal data that we track,  can help us focus on progress and keep us on track towards our goals.  If we take ONE STEP towards our goals on a daily basis, then we will succeed in the long term.  I have blogged about several apps that we can use to track our progress and I will continue to do so along with the mobile devices that will make our success possible.  Take a look at this video by Wired Magazine Editor Gary Wolf on a presentation he did at TED.  Let me know what you think.
